This has been a busy year for me and I plan to stay busy in 2012! I wish all of you and your families the best this coming year.

I've made a lot of progress with my art since 2010, here is a visual comparison I made. Last year I worked ona Lady Death set and a Hack/Slash set, and this year I worked on a Hack/Slash meets Lady Death set so I did two redux cards.

Here are all the cards I did for the set (all APs are sold):

I was also the 5finity Holiday sketch artist this year. I had EXTREMELY limited time to produce these so they're rough and would literally say they are "SKETCH CARDS" not as much "art cards". I have some blanks coming to me if you're interested in having a more elaborate custom holiday card created then shoot me an email dsoloud at yahoo.com they're $30.00 each and only have a few left.

This idea spawned from my webcomic, Life with Death,

In it is a corgi named Rotty who died but was NOT sent through Limbo for check-in, essentially putting him into a zombie-like state. I was commissioned to draw someone's pug, Snorkels, in the same state as a birthday present for her niece! Normally I put my zombies in an abnormal color (usually greens) but I decided to stick with traditional, common pug colors (well, Snorkel's colors).

I experimented with both - Manga Mandy with watercolor (not all of them) and Sheena was my first time using a brush pen on sketchcards. For the most part I will not continue using brush pen for these little works, I feel the tech pens work a lot better.

This past weekend was Megacon and it was amazing! I'd like to thank everyone who came over to my table, even if it was just to say hello. Here are some commissions that I remembered to take pictures of!

I was asked to draw my ideal Fantastic Four team on this cover. I knew I wanted them to be in the somewhat traditional FF costumes so I picked Marvel ladies that I felt were easy to distinguish. Also, this would be a crazy awesome team.

Miami Comic Con Wrap up

This is the post I originally made on Life with Death, but I guess it should be posted here too. This weekend is Megacon! Come see me in Brown Section 18A!

Back from Miami Comic Con which was a great show! Thanks to all who came over to see me! Met a lot of awesome people and new friends as well hanging with old ones.
I was surprised with an amazing piece of art of Kim and Rotty by the awesome Michael "Locoduck" Duron!

I commissioned Mike Maihak of Cleopatra in Spaaace! to draw Kim:

One thing that sucked was that on Saturday night after the con, I broke my banner. I unhooked the top part of it while not holding on to it so it shot down like a spring. The metal part on top of it flew off and cut my finger! Here is an illustration of the event as depicted by Kevin Mellon:

The format will also be a little different in the sense that the page size will be different (900x650 instead of graphic novel size) which I think will be better for a webcomic. Less more often definitely seems to be the way to go. So Chapter One wraps up the end of this month and I expect to have the first LwD book for sale next year at Megacon in Orlando, FL (and of course online).

I did something I normally don't do for this drawing. First, I did the pencils on cardstock paper. I changed their faces a few times, and Dazzler's face is actually a crude cut & paste from a previous scan of the same picture, but with different faces.

Then I tapes it to a piece of 9x12" bristol paper, and then to my lightbox. I inked directly on to the bristol.

I didn't think to take picture during actually working on it, I'll try to remember to do that next time. Finished:

In other news... this weekend is SUPERCON in Miami and then I'll be playing catch up on commissions for the following week or so.

A sketchbook dedicated to zombies? Hell yes. One of the few pics I remembered to take. Hopefully the nice people who had me do sketches for them will scan them in (or take a photo) and send them to me! Friday was slow but Saturday and especially Sunday were super busy for me! Pleasure to meet so many new awesome people and I had a great time. Definitely looking forward to next years!

Also, a Black Widow. Which is actually in color but my camera was being dumb and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Dammit.
